THE entire communities have emptied overnight. Renewed waves of armed bandit attacks have driven thousands of residents from their homes on foot — mothers carrying infants, the elderly leaning on relatives, children clutching whatever belongings could be salvaged in the chaos. Long columns of displaced villagers, mostly women, children, and the elderly, have been seen trekking rural routes in search of safety, as panic spreads across affected areas. (Sahara Reporters)
Communities around Gada Hudu, in Karu Local Government Area, were among the hardest hit — with local voices describing thousands of people forced out of their homes, fleeing on foot, in pickup vans, and on motorcycles. (Punch) Elsewhere in the state, in Odeni Gida Ward of the Nasarawa Local Government Area, coordinated attacks left more than 80 people dead, with homes burnt, food stores looted, farms abandoned, and property worth hundreds of millions of naira destroyed. This is not a distant statistic. It is a mother walking for hours with a child on her back, uncertain where the next meal will come from. It is a farmer who has lost his land, his harvest, and his home in a single night. It is a community stripped of everything except the will to survive.
